Fundraiser to reopen St. Ann’s church

TOWN OF LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB) – A group that wants to restore and reopen a large Catholic Church building in Buffalo held a benefit Sunday afternoon.

The Forestview Restaurant on Transit Road in the Town of Lancaster hosted the fundraiser, for the Save Saint Ann Church and Shrine Committee.

The Buffalo Catholic Diocese closed the building in 2012, saying it had to be demolished.

The group wants to preserve and re-open the large, old building.

“It’s an old church, there’s a lot of work, but the good news is not all the work needs to be done immediately. So, we’re looking 10, 20 years old, work on it gradually, and get a job done. If we want to get it done quickly, then yeah, there’s a money problem, but the good news is we don’t have to get everything done quickly,” said Martin Ederer, with the Friends of St. Ann Vitalization Committee.
