Ex-top cop who taught sex-abuse classes charged with child porn

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — The former police chief of a New York suburb has pleaded not guilty to child pornography charges.

Brian Fanelli was arraigned Monday. He’s charged with downloading and distributing three videos late last year and early this year.

He entered his plea through attorney Michael Burke.

Fanelli and Burke refused to comment afterward.

Fanelli’s wife and sister were among several friends and relatives who came with Fanelli to federal court in White Plains.

Fanelli was police chief in Mount Pleasant for just two months before he was arrested. He was suspended and has since resigned.

He also taught sex-abuse awareness classes to schoolchildren.

A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.

Mount Pleasant is 25 miles north of New York City.
