Non-faculty staff laid off from Canisius College

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – As part of cost-cutting efforts, Canisius College says it has reduced “non-faculty administrative and staff positions.”

Officials say laid-off employees are receiving a comprehensive severance package.

Several reports indicate the college is offering early retirement packages to faculty members age 62 or older working in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education. In all, 45 professors could be affected.

A statement from Canisius on Monday indicates the college is “diligently working on reducing expenses in light of lower projected enrollment for 2014-15 academic year” and that the layoffs and buyouts are necessary because of the “changing demographics and the national trends facing higher education.”

The college did not release how many layoffs were made on Monday, though News 4 has learned at least 10 employees were affected.
