Parent group says school’s “expert” isn’t an expert at all

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A new chapter is being written in a controversy over an alleged forged signature.

Members of the District Parent Coordinating Council met with the FBI over a so-called “handwriting expert” used by the Buffalo School District to accuse a mother of forging her own signature.

Timekia Jones, teacher’s aide and a leader among parents at the Harvey Austin School, accused the principal, Brigette Gillespie, of forging her signature. The district responded by hiring an expert who claimed Jones faked her own signature.

But the District Parent Coordinating Council says the district’s “expert” was actually a retired police officer with no background in handwriting analysis. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
