WNYers pray for 200 girls kidnapped in Nigeria

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Western New Yorkers created a sea of red in Delaware Park Tuesday night as they gathered to pray for the more than 200 school girls kidnapped in Nigeria.

The event was organized by the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The girls were kidnapped from their school more than a month ago.

The U.S. currently has a team of intelligence experts in Nigeria to aid in the search efforts.

Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said, “People said it is a needle in a haystack. It’s a needle in a jungle. We’re talking an area roughly the size of West Virginia and it’s dense, forest jungle.”

Boko Haram released a video earlier in the month showing some of the kidnapped girls reciting from the Koran.

The group’s leader has threatened to sell the girls in to slavery.
