Niagara’s Mason will transfer

LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara University basketball star Antoine Mason will finish his college career somewhere else.

The senior guard plans to transfer, after averaging 25.6 points per game as a junior with the Purple Eagles – the second-highest per-game point total in the nation this season.

It is just the latest star-caliber player to leave the program, going into the second season with Chris Casey at the helm. Juan’ya Green and Ameen Tanksley both left for Hofstra last summer, following former coach Joe Mihalich. T.J. Cline left to play at Richmond last summer.

The Purple Eagles went 7-26 last season, just 3-17 in the MAAC. The season before, NU went 19-14, despite a roster filled with mostly freshmen and sophomores.

Mason already graduated with his bachelor’s degree in finance, meaning he can play instantly somewhere else while pursuing his master’s degree. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
