BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A ceremony is taking place Friday morning, to offer prayers and support for the victim of the recent assault at Mollys Pub. Family, friends and servicemembers will gather at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park for a ceremony to pray for the recovery of Tech. Sgt. William C. Sager, Jr. The family will also announce that a charitable trust has been established in his name. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Sager, a former crew chief at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, was critically injured during an assault at Mollys Pub on Main Street in Buffalo. At least two eyewitnesses told detectives they saw Jeffrey Basil, who has close ties to the bar, push the Air National Guardsman down a flight of stairs inside the bar on Mother’s Day.
Buffalo Police Officers Adam O’Shei and Rob Eloff were working security for Mollys Pub that night, they were both suspended without pay. A source close to suspended Buffalo Police Officer Adam O’Shei says there is another story yet to be told concerning the assault on Bill Sager at Mollys Pub.
Family and friends continue to stay at Sager’s bedside at the Erie County Medical Center. Though he is believed to have suffered a traumatic brain injury, they talk to him softly and believe he can still hear them.
Sager deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. He also took part in relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti, and Hurricane Sandy.
