Canisius falls in MAAC Championship

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (WIVB) – The 18-game winning streak ended, along with any hopes for a MAAC title, with Canisius dropping two games to Siena in the MAAC championship series Sunday.

The Griffs, the tournament’s top seed, only needed one win as the lone remaining team from the winner’s bracket, but could not get the job done. Siena rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take game one 6-5, before topping Canisius 5-1 in game two.

Siena earns the MAAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win. The complete field of 64 will be revealed Monday at noon.

Canisius (40-16) won 40 games for the second year in a row. Today was just the second time all season, the Griffs lost both games of a double-header. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
