Flags descecrated at Lockport cemetery

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – Flags that were supposed to fly in honor of fallen veterans were found broken Monday.

The parents of Army Specialist Albert Jex contacted News 4 after discovering the damage in the veterans’ section of Cold Springs Cemetery in Lockport. Jex is buried at Cold Springs.

Jex’s mother, Cathy Marie MacFarlane, said vandals targeted an older part of the cemetery, destroying American flags that were placed on several veterans’ graves.

She posted photos from the cemetery on her Facebook page and shared them with News 4.

“Something told me look over your shoulder and that’s when I looked – the flags are gone – the sticks are broken – and it’s very disrespectful,” MacFarlane said.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office is expected to provide further information soon on this incident.
