Ceremony honors WNYers who made ultimate sacrifice

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Many of us paused Monday to remember servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Since 2001, we have lost more than 50 native sons and daughters to the War on Terror in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The family of one of those fallen heroes, Staff Sergeant William Wilson III, was at a ceremony in Williamsville on Monday.

“Just hearing the gunshots and the taps, it’s still, been two years, we’ll never forget.” Kimberley Wilson said, “I think it’s awesome these men and women will never be forgotten and that these people honor them. It’s the way it should be.”

Staff Sergeant Wilson was killed by small arms fire in Afghanistan in March 2012.
