Plea deal for gun incident at Buffalo School

Buffalo, N.Y. (WIVB) — The local president of MAD DADS could avoid jail time in a plea deal reached in New York State Supreme Court Tuesday.

Dwayne Ferguson has pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.

A search took place at Harvey Austin Elementary School on February 6 when someone reported seeing a person with a gun.

After the search ended, police charged Ferguson with felony criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds.

The misdemeanor plea means Ferguson would serve one year or less in jail. As a condition of his bail Ferguson surrendered both his firearms to authorities.

The Assistant District Attorney says the Buffalo Public Schools will determine whether Ferguson is allowed back in the school.

Ferguson is due in court for sentencing on August 19. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
