Fire causes $170K in damage to North Buffalo home

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo firefighters responded to a fire at Starin Avenue near North Drive late Tuesday night.

Witnesses say they saw heavy flames on the home’s porch just before midnight. A retired firefighter and his son managed to escape the fire without injury.

The blaze caused significant damage but firefighters were able to contain it before it became worse.

“That area that it was in was wide open to the living room area, staircase, second floor, would’ve spread right up to the attic. An old home like this, that fire rips through here really, really quickly,” said Buffalo Fire Division Chief John Mogavero.

The fire caused about $170,000 in total damage to the house and contents.
