Officer expected to take plea deal Thursday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – An officer who appears to be on camera roughing up John Willet is expected in court this week.

News 4 has learned John Cirulli, is set to appear before Federal Court Judge William Skretny Thursday afternoon.

Cirulli is expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of civil rights violations. As part of that plea, he is expected to resign from the Buffalo Police Department.

The video taken April 19 shows Willet in handcuffs, face down on the ground on Ontario Street, when he appears to be struck by Cirulli.

Willet told News 4 about a week after the incident, how he begged the officer to stop.
