Closing arguments underway in Brockport murder case

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) – Closing arguments are getting underway in the trial of a former high school hockey star, who is charged with murdering his girlfriend at SUNY Brockport.

Clayton Whittemore claims he “snapped” when 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut was beaten to death with a curling iron in her dorm room almost two years ago.

The trial has seen several delays as attorneys review psychiatric reports. Whittemore claims he was emotionally disturbed at the time.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree murder.

Whittemore was a student at Utica College.
