Church in Hamburg gets new steeple

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) – Crews used heavy machinery Friday to hoist a new steeple on top of Trinity Episcopal on Main Street in Hamburg.

The steeple is 1,700 pounds. It’s made from aluminum and is topped with a four-foot cross. The entire piece is 30-feet tall.

Along with the new steeple, for the first time on friday, the community will hear the church bell ring.

“We did have an opportunity, a small window to put in a bell. And we decided to take full advantage of that. And we’re very grateful to have a bell ringing out from the steeple, calling us to the mass, celebrating all the high events of our lives.”

The project is part of Trinity’s Major Repairs Campaign, which so far has raised more than $100,000 toward repairs, improvements and maintenance of the church building.

The steeple has been dedicated in memory of a long-time parishioner.
