Search for missing driver leads to DWI arrest

EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) – An East Aurora man is facing DWI charges after investigators say he crashed his vehicle, then left it behind and went home.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says Kyle Gauthier, 20, struck several mailboxes with his pick-up truck about 3 a.m. Friday on Stolle Road in Marilla. His truck then rolled over.

When deputies arrived, Gauthier was nowhere to be found. They were able to track him down a short time later at his home on Girdle Road. Deputies say he was intoxicated.

Gauthier was taken by ambulance to ECMC with head pain. He was released on charges of DWI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and other traffic infractions.

This was the 100th DWI arrest by the Erie County Sheriff’s Road Patrol this year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
