UB students build model Mars rover

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Some University at Buffalo students are showing off a high-tech robot they designed and built as part of a competition sponsored by NASA.

The group built a robotic vehicle and designed it to drive over rocky terrain, similar to what you’d find on the surface of Mars. Saturday morning, they’ll pack up their invention and head to Houston for a competition.

UB graduate ill Dell’Anno said, “I think the coolest thing is the arm. It’s controlled with an XBox controller. The kids love that. I’m standing right there, I can control all the joints. I was able to pick up rocks, bring them up, drop them. And at the same time I can drive the rover around.”

The group will compete against teams from seven other schools.
