BUFFALO, NY (WIVB)- This year marks the 28th annual Jim Kelly Celebrity Classic. On Monday night the festivities started at the Adam’s Mark hotel in downtown Buffalo with the annual Gala. Celebrities including national broadcasters, current and former Bills players along with the Bills front office all attended the event. However, Jim Kelly, who is battling a recurrence of Jaw cancer, was not in attendance.

“Jim is still recovering at ECMC. He didn’t go home like it may have been reported,” said Jim Kelly’s brother Dan Kelly. “He needs to get healthy.”

Dan Kelly added, “He has finished with his chemo. He is finished with radiation. Those are great, now he can start to recover. It will take about six to eight weeks of cooling down, to make sure he is healing properly before they can go in and do MRIs and we are hoping and praying the cancer is gone.”

The Celebrity Classic raises money for the Kelly for Kids Foundation which aims to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged and disabled children in Western New York. The golf tournament will be held on Monday at the Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
