TOWN OF CARLTON, N.Y. (WIVB)- A Lockport woman was run over by her own car Saturday night in the Town of Carlton.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s office says the woman’s car was parked with the engine running in a private driveway at a residence on Roosevelt Highway around 8:15 p.m.

According to the Sheriff’s report, the 28 year-old woman had just secured her 4 year-old son into his car seat in the back seat. Her 10 year-old daughter was in the front seat listening to the radio. The front door was open.

The woman was standing outside the car when the floor shift lever of the 1999 Dodge sedan moved from the “park” position and the vehicle began to move.

This is when she attempted to reach into the car to stop it when she was knocked to the ground by the open car door and was run over by the car in the driveway.

The vehicle continued into the roadway before coming to a rest.

Mercy Flight transported the victim to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The children were not injured.

Police tell News 4 that since there were no adults to witness the incident, deputies are hoping to interview the mother at some point to gain additional perspective as to what occurred.
