Business invests $19M in Genesee County paper mill

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says more than 100 jobs in Genesee County are secure, after the company explored out-of-state options. United States Gypsum Company will invest $19 million to its paper mill operations in Oakfield.

The business explored its options at paper mills throughout the country, and decided to invest in upgrades and the facility in Oakfield. This investment keeps 98 jobs in Genesee County and adds 12 more.

“We are grateful to the State of New York and its economic development partners for their coordinated effort to create a package of financial incentives that make it possible for USG to reinvest in our Oakfield paper mill,” said USG President and CEO James S. Metcalf in a prepared statement. “We look forward to continuing our long history in the community, which has produced an excellent work force for our operations for more than 100 years.”

U.S. Gypsum Company has had operations in Oakfield since 1902.
