DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) – A U-Haul truck carrying $2 million worth of cores containing gold and silver tipped over onto its side Monday morning on I-90 West.

Troopers arrived on scene just after 9 a.m. and found the driver uninjured. State Police say the driver is a government-contracted transporter and after verifying the driver’s credentials, arranged to have an armored vehicle respond to the scene to offload the precious metals.

The cargo was made up of large mechanical filter-like cores that are used in military aircraft. The cores contain amounts of gold and silver and are worth around $2 million.

The left lane of I-90 West was closed at the Depew exit for about half an hour. It has since re-opened.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
