BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Drivers who use the Niagara Thruway may face minor delays this week.

Starting Wednesday, the left lanes will be closed in both directions near Exit 8 (Niagara Street) while crews from the state department of transportation perform bridge maintenance. The closures will take place from approximately 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday.

The DOT says the work is weather sensitive and could be delayed because of rain.

Construction signs will be posted reminding drivers to slow down before entering a construction zone. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
