WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) – It’s been 32 years since a little boy in Niagara Falls disappeared. Russell Mort was just 2-years-old at the time he went missing, and now police are hoping someone will help break the cold case.
Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour hopes the power of social media will help them find answers, 32 years after Mort disappeared from his fenced in yard in Wheatfield.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children generated a photo of what they think Mort might look like right now. He would be 34-years-old with light brown hair. The sheriff posted the picture on their Facebook page and wants you to share it on social media.
They still don’t have any solid proof or leads on whether Mort is dead or alive. A few years ago DNA tests proved someone who thought he might be Mort was not. Just two weeks ago they tested another person, but that person was not Mort either. Voutour says right now the picture is the best thing they have to find him.
Voutour said, “They seem to be pretty accurate. The one thing we can’t control is the lifestyle of the person. What they do is use the facial features of the person, can’t control someones diet, maybe they look a lot older, but with not having anything to go on this is the best bet that we have.”
If you know anything about Mort or where he might be, or think you are him, call the 24 hour hotline of the National Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 or contact the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office 24 hour number at 716-438-3393.
