Driver hits Depew police officer

DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Depew police officer was involved in a crash Tuesday night at the corner of Transit and French Roads. A News 4 viewer sent us pictures of the accident, which happened at the corner of the 7-Eleven parking lot.

Depew Police Lit. William Curr says Officer Brian Gummel was responding to an emergency call around 8 p.m. when he was hit by 82-year-old Raymond Simmons. Simmons claims he did not see or hear the police car, according to police.

Simmons cut his arm and refused treatment at the scene. He was issued a summons for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Officer Gummer was sent to Sisters Hospital for evaluation and was released.
