SWAT team helps take man into custody

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man is now behind bars after threatening officers and his own family members.

Officers from East Aurora asked Town of Tonawanda Police to arrest Andrew Kina, who they believed was in a room at the Royal Inn Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard Monday night. Police tell News 4 that Kina he wouldn’t come out of the room and they called in reinforcements.

Tonawanda Police Capt. James Stauffinger said, “We had a limited callout of our SWAT team to make entry into the room, and we found Mr. Kina inside, and he was taken into custody without any incident.”

Police say the 31-year-old threatened family members with a firearm. He’s at the Erie County Holding Center charged with criminal contempt.
