Shovels ready for new affordable housing project

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The shovels will be out Wednesday when officials break ground on a new affordable housing project.

The Massachusetts Avenue Park Community Homes will go up near the Massachusetts Avenue Park on the city’s west side. PUSH Buffalo is behind the $12.4 million project.

Besides nine new structures, crews will also convert seven buildings that have been vacant for a long time. When all is said and done, there will be 46 new, energy efficient apartments.

Several local leaders are expected to be at the event, including Congressman Brian Higgins, Mayor Byron Brown, Senator Tim Kennedy, Assemblyman Sean Ryan and Council member David Rivera.
