SOLVAY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police in a central New York village say a man who was stabbed 42 times and shot once had no idea his wife was the chief suspect in the investigation.
Investigators say Michael LaPoint was recovering from his injuries and had no idea detectives were about to arrest his wife, Virginia.
Sergeant Derek Osbeck tells News 4’s sister station, WTVH, “It was very difficult to tell him that his injuries were sustained by someone who he believed loved him, not to mention the impact that this will have on the children they share together.”
LaPoint was shot in the shoulder and stabbed dozens of times in the back, chest and abdomen. Virgina LaPoint is now charged with attempted murder for allegedly planning the attack.
The incident occurred on May 4 at 217 William Street in Solvay. At the time of the incident in May, police arrested 42-year-old John Conway.
Investigators have ruled out a murder-for-hire case because they believe there was a relationship between Virginia LaPoint and Conway.
