Oakland drafts NU’s Schwartz in 4th round

LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – The first local player is off the board in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, with the Oakland A’s selecting Niagara University pitcher Jordan Schwartz in the 4th round Friday.

Schwartz, from Hornell, N.Y., was a second-team All-MAAC selection this year. He also earned a spot on the MAAC All-Academic Team.

The junior finished 2014 with a 5-6 record and a 3.12 ERA – third-best in the conference. Schwartz struck out 109 batters in 95.1 innings of work this spring.
