Thousands expected to join JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Sunday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Almost 3,000 walkers are expected to join JDRF’s 22nd Annual Walk to Cure Diabetes this Sunday, June 8, in Delaware Park. The goal is to raise $650,000 to help fund diabetes research.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. in the red and white striped tent. The walk starts at 11:00 a.m. on Delaware Park’s Ring Road. Participants are invited to enjoy food, music, and other activities after the walk and will be admitted to the Buffalo Zoo.

It’s estimated that 15,000 Western New York families are affected by Type 1 diabetes (also known as juvenile diabetes). More than 140 children and adults in WNY are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes each year.

Channel 4, WIVB-TV, is a longtime sponsor of the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Only the U.S. government spends more on diabetes research than JDRF. JDRF has spent more than $1.6 billion to support diabetes research with the goal of finding a cure.
