Man allegedly tried driving into squad cars

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Buffalo Police have arrested  34-year-old Timothy Jones in connection with an overnight incident. The incident began at 4 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of East Ferry and Fillmore Avenue.

Buffalo police were responding to a shots fired call when they observed a 2014 Ford fleeing the area. Accident investigators said officers attempted to stop the vehicle at least twice but the driver refused, striking a police vehicle both times. At one point, police say they had the vehicle boxed in but the driver took off and nearly struck an officer.

Officials tell News 4 the driver eventually hit a curb, blew a tire and was apprehended by officers near Carlton Street and Peach Street.

Jones was arrested and charged with attempted assault of an officer, fleeing from an officer, reckless driving, criminal possession of stolen property and a host of other charges. Police say Jones is currently on parole for drug possession charges.

At the same time Buffalo police homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in the vicinity of East Ferry and Fillmore at approximately the same time.

Detectives say a male was transported to Erie County Medical Center by private vehicle. The 30-year-old male suffered multiple gun shot wounds and is currently in stable condition.

Police continue to investigate if the two incidents are related.
