Man allegedly tried driving into squad cars

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police have arrested 34-year-old Timothy Jones in connection with an overnight incident near East Ferry and Fillmore Avenue.

Around 4 a.m., Buffalo Police were called to a report of shots fired when they observed a 2014 Ford fleeing the area. Accident investigators said officers attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jones at least twice, but he refused, striking a police vehicle with his car both times. At one point, police say they had Jones’ vehicle boxed in but he took off and nearly struck an officer.

Officials tell News 4 that JOnes eventually hit a curb, blew a tire and was apprehended by officers near Carlton Street and Peach Street.

He is facing charges of attempted assault of an officer, fleeing from an officer, reckless driving, criminal possession of stolen property and a host of other charges. Police say Jones is currently on parole for drug possession charges.

At the same time, Buffalo Police homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in the vicinity of East Ferry and Fillmore at approximately the same time.

Detectives say a male was transported to Erie County Medical Center by private vehicle. The 30-year-old male suffered multiple gun shot wounds and is currently in stable condition.

Police continue to investigate if the two incidents are related.
