Parents want board to keep MLK School 39 open

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Parents in Buffalo are protested the closing of MLK School 39 in Buffalo, Monday afternoon.

The group is upset about the uncertainty for students heading into next school year. Parents want the district to put the brakes on closing the school, and develop a long-term plan.

Sam Radford, President of the District Parent Coordinating Council, said, “As of right now, you’ve got parents running all over the place, trying to find a failing school to put their children into because they don’t know where they’re going to go in September. When you could just simply come and say to the staff, to the parents, stop doing all that running around, we are not going to close the school. Get ready and put together a plan to help these children for next year. That’s the responsible, reasonable thing to do, and we’re asking the school board to do that.”

The group is asking the school board to vote this Wednesday to keep MLK open. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
