BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A historic Buffalo building has found new life as an affordable housing development.
The ribbon was cut on White’s Livery Apartments on Jersey Street on Tuesday. The structure was built in 1889 as a livery stable, and after extensive renovations, now it’s ready for renters.
It features a number of one and two-bedroom apartments. Over $1.5 million from taxpayers went into the restoration. The project sponsor is a subsidiary of West Side Neighborhood Housing Services of Buffalo.
Mayor Byron Brown said, “Looking at it today, I couldn’t think of a better use of public dollars than to save a great historic structure like this.”
There are a total of 14 apartments in the complex.
