Firefighters show off skills at training facility

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Local volunteer firefighters showed off their skills Wednesday night at the training facility in Chestnut Ridge Park.

Volunteers from the Orchard Park Fire District rappelled off a five-story fire tower, simulated a fire attack and victim rescue off a balcony to a ladder truck, conducted a roof ventilation demonstration describing why firefighters cut holes and break windows to release deadly smoke and flames, and demonstrated teamwork in hose line advancement before attacking a live car fire.

Chestnut Ridge Conservancy Board of Directors member Ron Smith said, “This wonderful training ground here is used quite a bit for training of our local departments. We decided to let the public see how they are trained to fight fires in our area.”
