BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Western New York AARP members are concerned about the cost of utilities.
They are gathering at Ensminger Senior Citizens Center, in Tonawanda, Wednesday to urge State Senator George Maziarz to pass a bill that would create an independent utility consumer advocate office.
The bill, co-sponsored by Senator Mark Grisanti, has already passed the New York State Assembly but is opposed by the senate Republican leadership. According to an AARP survey, Erie County voters age 50 and over, overwhelmingly support the bill.
New Yorkers pay the highest residential electric rates in the continental United States.
