First Student to hire 100 bus drivers, 100 monitors

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – After announcing in April that it would be laying off around 80 employees, First Student now says it is looking to hire 100 bus drivers and 100 monitors.

The company announced Thursday it is expanding its operations in Buffalo after being selected to provide transporation for the Erie County Preschool and Early Intervention Program beginning in September.

This follows news in April that First Student would be closing its location on Millersport Highway after Student Transportation of America Inc. was awarded contracts with Batavia City Schools, the Attica Central School District, and Williamsville Central Schools.

First Student will hold the first of several hiring events on Tuesday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2306 Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga. Prospective candidates must be at least 21-years-old and able to pass all background checks and drug screens. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
