Pedestrian dead after crash involving four cars

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle on Millersport Highway in Amherst.

Around 4 p.m. on Friday, police say Yu Hua Qiu, 18, of Brooklyn was struck as she crossed Millersport at Flint Road. Investigators determined a Ford pickup hauling a small trailer driven by Daniel Kepple, 48, of Buffalo hit a car driven by Aujonee Smith, 20, of Amherst in the middle of the intersection. The car spun around and hit Qiu. She was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital with a head injury before being flown to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight. She later died from her injuries.

After hitting the car in the intersection, Smith’s pickup continued forward and hit two other vehicles waiting to turn left on Flint. The first vehicle was driven by 25-year-old Rebecca Jo Reyes of Michigan. She and her passenger, 56-year-old Sandra Mohn, were taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known. The second vehicle was driven by 27-year-old Dana Cave of Tonawanda, who was uninjured.

The accident blocked the roadway for around five and a half hours, but has since been cleared.

Police tell News 4 no charges have been filed against any of the parties involved in the accident.
