BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo Sabres are once again trying to expand their area of influence on the ice, officially submitting a bid to host the NHL’s pre-draft scouting combine.
The multi-year bid is attempting to lure the annual event away from Toronto, where the combine is traditionally held.
With the HarborCenter going up, Buffalo was expected to make a play for the combine. The league opened a bidding process this year, which means Buffalo may not be the only city with its sights set on bringing the event to town.
An decision from the NHL could come rather quickly. A team official tells News 4 Sports, he expects to have an answer within a few weeks.
The HarborCenter has already pulled in multiple USA Hockey commitments over the next couple years, earning the chance to host the annual All-American Prospects game, along with the U-18 women’s world championship, and the sledge hockey world championship next year.
