ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police say a 9-year-old was shot in the arm with a handgun by his teen-aged brother in the Village of Albion. Now the boy’s parents are facing charges.
The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday on Caroline Street. The little boy was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He is expected to recover.
The 13-year-old stole the gun from an elderly relative, according to authorities, and was playing with it when it was discharged. The teen has been charged with reckless endangerment.
On Friday, the boy’s parents, John Glena, 46, and his wife Kelley, 44, were arrested. Each are charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Police say the firearm incident was not a factor in their arrest, rather their investigation revealed unsafe conditions and code violations that jeopardized the health of the children in the home.
Both are due back in court next month.
