Thousands walk for kidneys

Buffalo, N.Y. (WIVB) — People with kidney trouble will benefit from their neighbors who walked in Delaware Park Sunday morning.

The Northeast Kidney Foundation of Greater Buffalo held its Walk for Kidneys.

There was also a competitive run.

Proceeds help pay for kidney screenings, along with patient support, outreach, education and research.

Some patients cannot work when they have kidney disease.

“A lot of times we have to provide food, transportation, pay for meds, we pay light bills, phone bills, just general emergencies that people encounter daily and can’t afford to do,” said Barbara Breckenridge, Community Relations Director with the Kidney Foundation.

Walkers and runners also received free admission to the Buffalo Zoo for the day. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
