AWOL soldier found hiding out in Wyoming County

PIKE, N.Y. (WIVB) – A soldier from Fort Drum was arrested in Wyoming County on a federal felony warrant for military deseration last week.

State Police were tipped off that 19-year-old Andrew Cox was in Pike. Troopers and deputies moved in to arrest him last Wednesday. The AWOL soldier was found hiding in the upstairs of a home.

Cox was taken to the Wyoming County Jail, where Military Police made arrangements to extradite him back to Fort Drum.

He was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and was issued an appearance ticket for Pike Town Court. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
