Batavia native wins on Jeopardy

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – There was a western New York connection on Jeopardy, Monday night.

Andrea Prospero West currently lives in South Carolina, where she’s a college instructor, but she is originally from Batavia.

She was in second place after Double Jeopardy and it all came down to the final question. The category was “Word Origins” and the answer was, “This noun, meaning, “a secret plan,” comes from the Latin for ‘to breathe together.’”

Alex Trebek said, “Let’s go to the middle, to Andrea West, she was in second place with $11,800. She is right. And her wager, big, $10,000 takes her into the lead.”

The question was, “What is conspiracy?” and West’s big wager paid off. She beat the returning champion by almost $4,000. Her one-day total is $21,800.

She’ll be back to try to earn more money Tuesday night. You can watch Jeopardy on Channel 4 at 7:30 p.m.
