Downtown movie theatre to go dark this week

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The only movie theatre in downtown Buffalo is going dark.

The Buffalo News reports the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center on Main Street will show its last movie this Thursday night. The not-for-profit group that runs the theatre says it doesn’t have the money to make the switch to digital projectors.

But the theatre may not be dark for long. The City of Buffalo has received at least four proposals for keeping this space alive as a movie house.

Road Less Traveled Productions, which operates in the theatre, says it is working the city and the current building owner to maintain its operations during any transition and through a possible sale of the building. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
