State DOT unveils plan for Elmwood Ave bridge over 198

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The State DOT unveiled designs meant to replace the old Elmwood Bridge over the 198 in Buffalo during a public meeting Wednesday at Buffalo State College.

The event allowed people to weigh-in on the different designs.

Regional Design Engineer David Christopher said, “The new bridge will be pretty much on the existing alignment. It will still have four lanes of traffic, two lanes in both directions. But we are proposing to enhance the pedestrian accommodation as well as bicycle accommodations through a wider sidewalk on the West side of the bridge and wide shoulders across the bridge.”

If all goes according to plan, the new bridge would be finished at the end of 2016. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
