Companies at job fair in Buffalo aim to hire veterans

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – On Thursday companies spoke to veterans about hundreds of job openings in Western New York.

The Hiring Our Heroes job fair took place at the Connecticut Street Armory, with employment workshops and ways for vets to fine-tune their job hunting skills.

Many companies are eager to consider veterans because of their skills and work ethic.

“Just get a feel of what veterans skills I’ve learned could translate to these people, whether I’m actually interested in that company,” said Ryan Camman, who served 12 years in the Navy in Africa.

“Through the training and the skills that are gained through the military service they translate those into the civilian communities and just make great employees,” said Maj. Gen. Patrick Murphy, U.S. Army.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau there are 15,000 veterans living in the Buffalo metro.
