Nearly 12,000 take part in JP Morgan Corporate Challenge

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Nearly 12,000 runners and walkers laced up and stepped off for this year’s JP Morgan Corporate Challenge.

News 4 was among 396 companies that were represented at Delaware Park Thursday night for a 3.5 mile road race that raises money for the National Academy Foundation. This is the 34th year for what’s become a Buffalo tradition.

Race coordinator Dan Loncto said, “This has sort of evolved into like the first big event of the summer for lots and lots of companies. Some even use it as their summer picnic. So it’s like, kick off the summer, let’s run the Corporate Challenge.”

Some of the biggest companies that ran this year were Tops, Ingram Micro, Buffalo Public Schools, Kaleida Health, Wegmans, Moog, ECMC, M&T Bank, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Praxair.

Vasilis Kariolis of Ernst & Young took first place in the men’s division with a winning time of 17:48 and Gabrielle Leo of Wegmans finished first in the women’s division with a time of 21:08. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
