Exit 48A on I-90E re-opened after truck fire

PEMBROKE, N.Y. (WIVB) – A fully-engulfed truck sent a plume of smoke high into the air Thursday night in Pembroke.

The fire began around 7:45 p.m., closing Exit 48A on I-90 East as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. Around an hour and a half later, crews re-opened the ramp after cleaning up a large amount of diesel fuel that had spilled onto the roadway.

The truck was carrying brand new, unused dumpsters. Firefighters say the flames were so intense, it melted the diesel tanks, allowing the fuel to escape, but thankfully not igniting it.

There are no reports of any injuries.
