Canalside to host World Cup viewing party

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Don’t be surprised if you hear chants of ‘U-S-A! U-S-A!’ along the Buffalo waterfront this weekend.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation and Global Spectrum will show the USA vs. Portugal World Cup match live Sunday on two large screens at Canalside.

The game starts at 6 p.m. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but the action here in Buffalo will start two hours earlier. Several food trucks will be on hand along with beer and wine service.

“Canalside has caught the World Cup fever,” said ECHDC Chairman Robert Gioia in a statement. “There will be no better place to watch the game than on the waterfront this Sunday. Bring your friends and family to cheer on the team and enjoy the food, drinks and festive atmosphere. Go USA!”

Canalside hosts more than 800 events and welcomes nearly one million visitors to Buffalo’s inner harbor each year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
