Investigators look for info on rash of fires

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Investigators are looking for more information about a rash of four fires on the same North Tonawanda street.

In less than 48 hours, four fires sparked on Fifth Avenue. News 4 has learned from sources that “the fires are under investigation as possibly being suspicious.”

Firefighters responded to the first call, at 7 5th Avenue, at about 5:50 a.m. Friday. That was followed by three more fires, all at 19 5th Avenue, at 3:30 p.m. Friday, 12:30 a.m. Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Neither the people who live in the homes, nor any firefighters, were injured during any of the fires. But the last one, investigators estimate, caused about $20,000 in damage to #19.

Part of the investigation includes looking into whether all four fires may be related.

Anyone with information, pictures or CCTV video, may contact the North Tonawanda Police Detective Bureau at 692-4312.
