Sterilization practices questioned at VA Hospital

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo’s VA hospital is getting called-out in a letter to President Obama.

According to the Office of the Medical Inspector, teams were able to validate claims that workers at the hospital didn’t always comply with VA sterilization standards for wearing personal protective equipment.

Inspectors also found that workers occasionally failed to place indicator strips on surgical trays and mislabeled sterile instruments.

But it’s important to note that OMI does not believe this affected patient safety.
